hey everyone..

so im in the market to buy a new computer / laptop..
if you have been to my place u will know i only have a eepc and a very very old vaio
both of these dont play well with my Dslr camera or video editing.

so my new computer is a choice between the following
1. 13" macbook pro $1900
2. pc laptop of some kind $1500
3. desktop pc $1500

these are my prefences, i guess the mac has priority due to inbuilt video and photo editing stuff..
plus it looks cool!!!

my requirements are really basic.. i only use the comp to surf the net and watch tvshows movies anime..
mkv support would be a requirement..

My understanding is you will get superior performance and functionality out of a PC for your money. I am unfamiliar with the 'inbuilt' video/photo editing stuff on a mac, but I assume it is fairly basic if it is coming free with the system... You'll want high-end software for these pursuits. In terms of hardware, if you choose the right pieces for the PC you'll be fine.

Also it is kinda telling that for a mac with equal specs to a given pc you will pay much much more.

But I'm 'biased'.

As for the build, the 'high-end' one looks fairly inexpensive... look at the MSY parts list.

A high end Mac will do video editing out of the box.

But is $1900 a high-end Mac?

It'd be fine for everything he's suggesting, certainly. Macs are perfect for this stuff, it's whether you can afford the extra cash for one, I'd think.

Macbook pros are good macs, don't know about the 13 inch though. Can't recall if they come with iMovie or whatever default anymore, though. My Mac doesn't have it, but it's possible that my brother didn't install a disk's worth of stuff. If you have to buy the software separately, it's probably worth thinking about something else.

Yep, you can dual boot your mac. They run well, but they're likely to run a little hotter under windows... Or perhaps it's just that whenever I'm in windows I'm playing games.

I dunno, even running TF2 under Wine at the same time as photoshop doesn't seem to get as hot as TF2 in windows.

Yeah, if you do want an apple computer it's almost always best to wait for a hardware refresh.

A site I found handy a good five years ago when I bought my iMac: link.
